Nice Work is an award winning novel that was shortlisted for the Booker prize and winning the 1988 Sunday Express Book of the Year award. The book was written by British author David Lodge and published in 1988 by Secker and Warburg (now known as Harvill Secker).
The novel is set in the city of Rumbridge (the author's fictional version of Birmingham) and is part of the same series as the novels Thinks...., Changing Places and Small World. The book follows the encounters of feminist University teacher Robyn Penrose and Vic Wilcox, a manager of an engineering firm.
A year after publishing Nice Work was adapted into a four part television series by BBC, starring Haydn Gwynne and Warren Clarke as Robyn Penrose and Vic Wilcox respectively.
